Eligibility Requirements

New Applicants

  • Description of a New Applicant
    • Graduating Senior of McIntosh County Academy, or
    • Graduate of McIntosh County Academy in the Last 5 Years and this is the 1st time applying for this scholarship.
  • Plan to attend or attend an accredited college or technical institute at the time of application.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher at the time of application.
  • Enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours each fall semester and each spring semester as a scholarship recipient.
  • Submit official transcript, including most recently completed fall semester grades (i.e. if you are applying in 2018, your transcript must include your final fall 2017 semester grades).
  • Complete and submit the Online Application Form.
  • Upload Letter of Acceptance from the school you will attend, if selected as a scholarship recipient.
  • Meet all deadlines.

Returning Applicants

  • Description of a Returning Applicant
    • Graduated from McIntosh County Academy in the Last 5 Years and a Current or Previous Scholarship Recipient
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or technical school.
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours last semester (Fall) and this current semester (Spring).
  • Have a minimum of a cumulative 2.0 GPA at the conclusion of last semester (Fall).
  • Submit official transcript, including most recently completed fall semester grades (i.e. if you are applying in 2018, your transcript must include your final fall 2017 semester grades).
  • Complete and submit the Online Application Form.
  • Meet all deadlines.

Renewal Eligibility (Reapplication Requirements)

Current and Previous scholarship recipients of the scholarship program MUST reapply for this scholarship every year. A recipient of the Annemarie and Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship may reapply for this scholarship up to 5 years from the date of high school graduation. The following renewal eligibility requirements are below:

  1. Be enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical college the entire academic year.
  2. Maintain enrollment in a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester (fall and spring).
  3. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher for the entire academic year.

 

Scholarship Timeline

Application Period : January 1 – March 1

Applications are accepted during this time period using the online application form found on this page. Applications are not received or will be accepted by fax or mail.  The applications will close at 11:59pm on March 1st.  Applications will not be received or accepted after the March 1st deadline. Current and previous scholarship recipients must reapply for this scholarship every year and must meet all of the renewal eligibility requirements to reapply (see above).

McIntosh County Academy Award Ceremony Night: May 17th

New Applicants, who are graduating seniors, will be recognized by member(s) of our Board of Trustees to congratulate and celebrate with students selected as apart of our scholarship program for the upcoming academic year.

Scholarship Acceptance Deadline: July 1

Notifications to applicants selected  as a 2018-2019 Annemarie and Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholar will be announced in May/early June via email. Selected New and Returning applicants must log into their scholarship application account via the scholarship portal to (1) sign and upload their Scholarship Agreement Form, and (2) provide the following College and Financial Aid Office Information below to accept their scholarship award for the upcoming academic year. Please see also our Scholarship FAQs page to address questions on how to complete the Scholarship Acceptance section. 

Selected New Applicants will provide:

(1)  The name of the college they will be enrolling,

(2)  Name of their Financial Aid Officer,

(3)  The mailing address to the Financial Aid Office where their scholarship award will be mailed, 

(4)  Upload their college acceptance letter, and

(5)  Provide the email address of their institution’s financial aid office.

Selected Returning Applicants will confirm:

(1)  The name of the college they are attending,

(2)  Name of their Financial Aid Officer,

(3)  The mailing address to the Financial Aid Office where their scholarship award will be mailed,

(4)  Upload their college acceptance letter (if the school he/she is attending is different than what was put on the original application), and

(5)  Provide the email address of their institution’s financial aid office.

Selected new and returning applicants who do not complete the items outlined above by July 1st will not receive funding for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year.

Scholarships Mailed: 1st Week of July

The Sapelo Foundation will mail all scholarship awards to schools the first week of July. Scholars will be emailed on the day scholarship awards are mailed. Scholars with questions should contact their colleges, not The Sapelo Foundation, to ensure scholarships are being processed. The Sapelo Foundation can only confirm by email (info@sapelofoundation.org) if a scholarship award is deposited.

 

Changing Schools/Colleges

This section only applies to applicants who are selected for our scholarship program.

Before July 1st, if a scholarship recipient changes schools, after filling out the Scholarship Acceptance section, you may update your school’s information by taking the following steps:

  1. Log into our scholarship portal
  2. Select the Scholarship Acceptance section.
  3. Update the College and Financial Aid Office Information portion with the following information:
    1. For Returning Applicants ONLY: Select “No” to the “I am attending the same college/ school listed on my application”
    2. Name of the new school at which he/she is now enrolled.
    3. Name of your Financial Aid Officer.
    4. Address of the new school’s bursar/financial aid office.
    5. Student ID# (if applicable).
    6. Upload Acceptance Letter from your new school/institution

After July 1st, if a scholarship recipient changes schools, he/she must:

  1. Notify The Sapelo Foundation by logging into your scholarship application through our scholarship portal by July 15th.
  2. Select the “Changed Colleges” section and provide the following information:
    1. Name of the new school at which he/she is now enrolled.
    2. Name of your Financial Aid Officer.
    3. Address of the new school’s bursar/financial aid office.
    4. Student ID# (if applicable).
    5. Upload Acceptance Letter from your new school/institution.
  3. Notify your original school and request the scholarship funds be returned to The Sapelo Foundation. Upon receipt of these funds, The Sapelo Foundation will then issue payment to the new school. Funds must be received by August 1st.

If the Sapelo Foundation is not notified by July 15th and/or your scholarship funds are not received by August 1st, we will not be able to fund your education for the upcoming academic year and we encourage you to reapply next year.

 

Transferring Colleges after July 15 or in the Middle of the Academic Year

If you transfer to a different college after July 15th and/or in the middle of the academic year, The Sapleo Foundation will not be able to support you financially for the remainder of that academic year. We encourage you to reapply for the scholarship for the next academic year when applications are available on January 1st.

 

Graduate Study Funding

Applicants for graduate/post graduate study will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must be a graduate of McIntosh County Academy in the last 5 years, and a current or previous scholarship recipient who is reapplying for the upcoming academic year.  Please email us at info@sapelofoundation.org with the following information if you are looking for funding as a graduate student: (1) Name, (2) Email address, (3) School you are planning to attend, (4) Course of study, and (5) A brief statement (less than 150 words) of why you are asking for funding. Requests for funding will only be accepted during the open undergraduate application period from January 1 to March 1, every year.
